John Mayer played a show last night in Vancouver at the Garage; AKA GM Place. Personally, I'm not too keen on going to concerts at big arenas just because the sense of intimacy with the musicians are virtually not there. But. BUT, John Mayer completely put my theory to complete shame last night.
The night started with Michael Franti and Spearhead as the opening act, in one word: Perfect. They got everyone on their feet and you just couldn't help but dance along to the songs. It was a great way to get the audience hyped for John Mayer himself. What I really enjoyed, actually two things I really enjoyed about Michael Franti is first, he was on the stage, in the crowds, walking through the crowds performing. That was great to see. Secondly and a more dominant like for me was that after the show he went around and just met his fans, he took pictures with them and actually had conversation, asking peoples names and such. How loveable can you get? I love it.
Fast forward, John Mayer.
Though most of the songs he performed were from his new album, Battle Studies, (which wasn't surprising given it's the "Battle Studies Tour")he also mixed in some old ones like, my personal favourite, "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room", "Gravity", "Waiting on the World to Change", "Vultures", he even played Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" and that had everyone in the GM Place erupt in song. There was a lot of musical adventures him and his band took us through inbetween songs and that was amazing to see. I truly saw what John Mayer was made of, as a musician, watching him on stage and making his guitar sing. The crowd was so into it too, and after they left stage, before the encore, everyone started chanting what we were all chanting with John Mayer just moments ago to get him and his band back on stage. Such a good performance and I highly recommend anyone to go to a John Mayer concert, it will definitely be well worth however much you spend. He even added some of his witty comments in the intervening time between songs. He's got wits, charm and killer moves. Watching him get so into the music was absolutely majestic.
All musicians from last night were amazing and I just want concerts to be like this all the time =D
Concluding here, I just wanted to say thank you to Ozzy for getting tickets for the show for my Birthday. So, Thank You honey!
Buh-Bye.
Bee.
